“On Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at approximately 3:15 PM, a caller from the Junction City area reported that a subject had just driven onto his property and discharged a firearm at an unoccupied vehicle. The subject then fled the area in a dark colored green Honda Accord. The caller identified the suspect as Roman Woods-Ponce.
Shortly thereafter, Deputies observed a similar appearing vehicle travelling eastbound on State Route 299. They made efforts to stop the vehicle multiple times and on two occasions the vehicle stopped, but the driver refused to exit the vehicle or cooperate with law enforcement. During the second incident, law enforcement attempted to box the vehicle in once stopped; however, the vehicle managed to drive erratically around Deputies and California Highway Patrol Officers and continued eastbound on State Route 299.
A pursuit ensued and the vehicle wrecked near the intersection of Court Street and State Route 299 in Weaverville, CA.
The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, Wood-Ponce, was taken into custody.
A Search Warrant was served on the vehicle and a variety items of evidence were located, to include a firearm as well as ammunition. The scene of the incident was also processed and showed evidence indicative of the reported incident.
Woods-Ponce was transported to the Trinity County Jail where he remains on the below referenced charges.
