Placer County, CA – A recent shoulder tap operation conducted by Placer County deputies caught a couple purchasing tobacco for a minor. The operation, which took place on April 8th, targeted ten establishments between Auburn and Granite Bay.
During the operation, a minor approached the couple and asked them to purchase tobacco for them. The couple agreed to do so, leading to their arrest. The female who purchased the tobacco was also found to have a felony warrant for child endangerment and narcotic sales, resulting in her separate arrest.
The male involved was cited for providing tobacco to a minor. It is important to note that under 308(a) of the California Penal Code, it is illegal for anyone to purchase tobacco products for individuals under 21 years old.
Placer County Sheriff’s Office conducts these shoulder tap operations throughout the year to combat the growing problem of minors accessing tobacco products. The operations aim to remind the public of the legal consequences associated with purchasing tobacco for minors.
