Former LAPD Officer Arrested on Suspicion of Child Rape
A Los Angeles Police Department probationary officer has reportedly been arrested for the alleged rape of a child.
According to a department news release, Diego Jose Miranda Lopez, a former probationary officer of the Los Angeles Police Department, was arrested on Thursday, April 20, on suspicion of the forcible rape of a child under 14 years old. According to reports, Mr. Lopez was assigned to the North Hollywood Area before he resigned when confronted with the allegations.
Detectives from the Juvenile Division, in partnership with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, established probable cause to believe that the suspect committed the act of rape. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office will review the case today, April 24, 2023, for filing considerations.
The alleged assault occurred prior to Mr. Lopez’s employment with the Los Angeles Police Department. The Internal Affairs Division, under the Professional Standards Bureau, is responsible for the administrative investigation relating to this case.
Mr. Lopez was booked at Valley Jail, where he is currently being held without bail pending court proceedings.
