A Fresno County man has been arrested in the death of his uncle, which was allegedly a result of a physical altercation between the two.
According to a press release by the Fresno Police Department, the incident occurred in the Village at Shaw Apartments in Fresno on Tuesday, April 25. The physical altercation resulted in the death of 64-year-old Vincent Duray Brewer. According to the Northeast Policing District, officers were dispatched to the scene shortly before 2:30 AM for a report of a physical disturbance. Upon arrival, they found Brewer unconscious in the courtyard of the apartment complex.
Officers immediately performed first aid on Brewer until the EMS arrived and took over. He was rushed to Community Regional Medical Center for further treatment, but was later pronounced deceased, police said.
Upon further investigation, it was discovered that Brewer had been involved in a heated argument with his nephew, identified as 28-year-old Keith Walker Jr. Police say the argument turned physical, and Walker allegedly punched Brewer once, causing him to fall to the ground and lose consciousness.
Walker was detained on the scene by officers and later interviewed by detectives. During the interview, he reportedly admitted to getting into a verbal altercation with Brewer earlier and punching him as a result of “feeling disrespected.”
Following the interview, Walker was arrested and booked into the Fresno County jail on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter.
The Fresno Police Department is calling on anyone with information about the incident to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation. Those who wish to provide information anonymously can contact Crime Stoppers at 498-STOP (7867). Alternatively, they can contact the Fresno Police Department’s Homicide Detective B.
