SAN PABLO — Two men are in custody for allegedly shooting at a vehicle parked outside a convenience store before fleeing the area. Fortunately, none of the five persons seated inside the vehicle were injured.
The shooting occurred on April 3 at 11:30 p.m. San Pablo PD officers responded to gunshots in front of Bonfare Market at 1321 23rd Street. Investigators learned the suspects confronted the victims, before one suspect fired three shots at them.
Detectives checked surveillance cameras to identify the getaway vehicle used by the suspects. The owner of the registered vehicle is Alejandro Diaz, 31 of Rodeo. The second suspect is Irvin Escalante-Herrera, 31, of San Pablo.
Ramey Warrants and search warrants were obtained by investigators. With assistance from the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office, San Pablo police searched their residences in Rodeo and San Pablo.
On the morning of April 27, both Diaz and Escalante-Herrera, were arrested. Diaz was placed under arrest at 5 a.m. Escalante-Herrera was taken into custody at 5:27 a.m.
Both men were transported and booked into the Martinez Detention Facility. Diaz is being held in custody in lieu of $425,000 bond. For Escalante-Herrera bond was set at $550,000 to release him.
Detectives recovered three illegal firearms and other evidence linking the suspects to the crime. Diaz and Escalante-Herrera are each facing multiple charges for attempted murder and various firearms-related offenses.
