Clovis Police have made an arrest in connection with a recent fire that broke out in a residential neighborhood near Peach and Shepherd in the early hours of April 28.
According to a press release by the Clovis Police Department, the fire, which started in an RV parked between two homes, quickly spread, damaging both homes and endangering the lives of the occupants who had been sleeping inside.
According to reports, a resident was awakened by his barking dog and alerted to the fire, which was already spreading. He quickly called 911 and alerted the occupants of the nearby homes. Clovis Police and Fire arrived on the scene shortly afterward, helping residents escape the blaze and extinguishing the flames.
Following an investigation, police have arrested 47-year-old Andrew Dubbels of Fresno on multiple felony charges, including arson, child endangerment, stalking, and possession of a destructive device.
According to police, Dubbels used multiple “Molotov cocktails” to set fire to the RV, which quickly spread to the nearby homes. Police also said Dubbels was known to a family in one of the damaged homes.
No injuries were reported as a result of the fire, largely due to the quick actions of a resident and his dog, Charlie, who were able to alert residents and help them escape, police said. The damage to the homes was significant, however.
The investigation into the fire is ongoing, and police are asking anyone with information about the incident to come forward. It was unclear at press time whether Dubbels had retained an attorney.
