On Thursday, April 13th, 2023, Keith Harris, a 32-year-old man, was involved in an interrupted residential burglary in Red Bluff, California. When a neighbor interrupted him, Harris fled the scene in his vehicle, leading the neighbor on a chase. During the pursuit, Harris lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a house on Haley Lane before fleeing the scene in his damaged car.
Red Bluff Police Department officers, Tehama County Sheriff’s Office deputies, California Highway Patrol officers, Parole, and the Tehama County District Attorney’s Bureau of Investigations all responded to the scene. A Tehama County Sheriff’s deputy later located Harris traveling west on Walnut Street at a high rate of speed, and a pursuit began. However, Harris refused to stop and led the deputy on a brief chase, with speeds reaching up to 80 mph. Harris eventually stopped his car at a business parking lot on Baker Road and fled on foot.
Despite an extensive search of the area, Harris remained at large for about an hour. However, Red Bluff Police Department officers received a report of a man matching Harris’ description walking through a nearby field a short time later. Officers located Harris, who attempted to evade capture by running and jumping over fences of nearby residences. The search continued with the help of a CHP helicopter, personnel from the Tehama County Sheriff’s Office, and Tehama County Probation. Eventually, Red Bluff Police K9 Max was used to track down Harris, who was found lying in a patch of tall grass near a pond northeast of Monrovia Street.
Keith Harris was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Tehama County Jail on multiple charges, including burglary, violation of parole, resisting arrest, hit and run, reckless evading, and evading while driving on the wrong side of the roadway.
