Mariposa County Man Arrested on Suspicion of Attempted Murder
A man from Mariposa County has been arrested and charged with attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon in connection to a recent stabbing incident that left a victim critically injured.
According to a press release, the Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call for suspicious circumstances at the Creekside Apartments on around midnight on Sunday, May 7. Upon arriving at the location, deputies reportedly found an adult victim who had been stabbed and had a deep puncture wound to his chest. The victim was alert and able to provide information to the deputies, indicating that he had been stabbed by a suspect in a nearby apartment.
Deputies attempted to make contact with the residents inside the identified apartment. One of the residents, identified as 30-year-old Cynthia Garza, opened the door but immediately began to block their entry and resist orders. She was subsequently taken into custody on suspicion of resisting arrest.
Moments later, however, the other resident, identified as 26-year-old Dakota Reel of Mariposa, exited the apartment and allowed himself to be taken into custody. He was identified as the primary suspect in the stabbing. Several children were also present in the apartment at the time of the arrest, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Several children were also found inside the apartment where the incident occurred. The victim was flown to an area hospital and is currently listed in critical condition. No other details about the victim have been released.
Reel is currently being held at the Mariposa County Jail with a bail of $500,000 on suspicion of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon. Garza has been booked and released on charges of resisting arrest. It was unclear at press time whether either of them had retained an attorney.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and the Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office has indicated that it will release further information as it becomes available.
