Early in the morning on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, a traffic stop made by an American Canyon Police Officer led to the arrest of a woman on parole for carjacking. The driver of the vehicle was identified as 24-year-old Tanya Comier from Fairfield, California. The officer discovered that Comier was on California state parole for carjacking after she had lied about her parole status.
During a search of the vehicle, officers from the American Canyon Police Department found a backpack that contained documents belonging to Comier and a loaded 9mm Glock magazine. Additionally, they found a loaded Glock 48 9mm firearm inside a hidden compartment on the armrest.
Comier was immediately placed under arrest for six felony charges related to the incident. Her charges included prior felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a concealed firearm, and a parole hold. She is currently being held in custody at the Napa County Department of Corrections, awaiting her court appearance.
The American Canyon Police Department has not released any further information regarding the incident. It is unclear whether Comier was planning to use the weapons found in the vehicle or why she had them in her possession. The police department has not stated what prompted the initial traffic stop, or if Comier was cooperative during the encounter.
