Victim Identified, Second Arrest Made in Vacaville Homicide
Vacaville Police have announced the identification of a victim in a recent homicide, as well as an additional arrest made in connection with the crime.
According to a press release by the Vacaville Police Department, law enforcement responded to reports of gunfire on the 100 block of Meadows Drive on the evening of May 11. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 16-year-old male juvenile, identified as Mateo Godinez-Vallejo from Sacramento, suffering from a gunshot wound.
Despite immediate medical aid and transportation to a local hospital, the victim did not survive and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
During the course of the investigation, detectives determined that an altercation had taken place prior to the shooting involving Godinez-Vallejo and another 17-year-old male juvenile from Vacaville. Both individuals sustained gunshot wounds during the altercation.
The 17-year-old suspect, whose identity is being withheld due to being a minor, sought medical treatment for his injuries early in the investigation. On May 12th, following his discharge from the hospital, the suspect was arrested on suspicion of murder and unlawful discharge of a firearm. He is currently in custody at Solano County Juvenile Hall.
Further investigation led detectives to identify another 16-year-old male juvenile from Vacaville who was involved in the shooting. On May 15th, at approximately 12 PM, law enforcement arrested this individual on charges of attempted murder and unlawful discharge of a firearm. The second suspect was then booked into Solano County Juvenile Hall.
It was unclear at press time whether either of the individuals had retained an attorney.
The investigation into this incident remains active and ongoing, and police are strongly encouraging anyone with information to come forward.
