MARIN CITY — A woman loaded a shopping cart with merchandise and pepper-sprayed a security guard in the face. She fled without paying for anything, almost hitting pedestrians as she drove away from Marin Gateway Shopping Center.
She was observed walking by the payment kiosks at Target. When security attempted to detain her, she sprayed the guard, and walked to her car. After loading the stolen items in the trunk, she sped away.
Marin County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched May 8 at 10:12 a.m. to the scene of this robbery. Investigators soon found a cell phone that the robbery suspect dropped inside the store.
A search warrant was granted to access the phone. Telecommunications and other database records helped investigators solve the case quickly. In a prepared statement the Marin County Sheriff’s Office said. “Detectives utilized various databases and located a suspect and suspect vehicle.”
The suspect is identified as Eaquoiva Antonia Scott, a 22-year-old Berkeley resident. With help from the Berkeley Police Department, sheriff’s office detectives arrested Scott in Berkeley on May 11.
In addition to her phone, detectives also found other physical evidence linking Scott to the crime. An empty can of pepper spray found inside her vehicle was recovered for evidence. Scott was booked into Marin County Jail, where she was held in lieu of $50,000 bond, before being released. The case implicating Scott is being reviewed by the Marin County District Attorney’s Office.
