A Solano County man has been arrested after allegedly being caught with large amounts of narcotics and a loaded gun following a police pursuit.
According to a press release by the Fairfield Police Department, a driver attempted to flee from authorities during a short pursuit in Fairfield on the night of May 17. An officer attempted a traffic stop near the intersection of Auto Mall Parkway and Raleigh Drive due to observed vehicle code violations. The driver reportedly refused to yield, prompting a pursuit at an average speed of 25 mph along Serrano Drive.
The chase came to an end when the driver parked the vehicle in front of a residence located near Woolner Avenue and Merlot Court. Responding officers apprehended the driver, identified as 61-year-old Kenneth Larkins, a resident of Fairfield.
While attempting to take Larkins into custody, Larkins’ girlfriend reportedly emerged from the nearby residence, proceeded to open the passenger side door of the vehicle, and began attempting to retrieve and bring several bags inside. The officers detained her for further investigation as well.
A search of both the vehicle and the bags led to the discovery of substantial quantities of narcotics, a loaded firearm, and an undisclosed amount of US currency. As part of standard procedure, the vehicle was seized for evidentiary purposes and will be examined by the Special Operations Team (SOT) in the course of their follow-up investigation.
Kenneth Larkins has been booked into the county jail on suspicion of possession of drugs with intent to distribute, sales and transportation of a controlled substance, and evading a peace officer. It was unclear at press time whether Larkins had retained an attorney.
No further information was available regarding the detaining of Larkins’ girlfriend.
Law enforcement authorities have refrained from disclosing specific details regarding the type and quantity of narcotics seized, as the investigation is ongoing.
