“Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón announced that Danny Masterson was convicted today of forcibly raping two women in separate incidents dating back to 2003.
‘We want to express our gratitude to the three women who came forward and bravely shared their experiences. Their courage and strength have been an inspiration to us all.’ District Attorney Gascón said. ‘While we are disappointed that the jury did not convict on all counts, we respect their decision. The verdicts handed down by the jury in this case were undoubtedly a difficult one to reach and we thank the jurors for their service.
We also recognize that preventing sexual assault is critical and we will continue to educate the public on the importance of consent, healthy relationships, and bystander intervention. We believe that by working together, we can create a safer and more just society for all.’
Jurors deliberated for more than six days before finding Masterson (dob 3/13/76) guilty of two counts of rape by force or fear. The jury was deadlocked on a third victim but found true the special allegation of forcible rape against more than one victim.
Masterson was remanded into custody and sentencing is set for August 4 in Department 105 of the Foltz Criminal Justice Center. He faces up to 30 years to life in state prison.
In April 2003, Masterson raped a 28-year-old woman and sometime between October and December of that year he sexually assaulted a 23-year-old woman who he had invited to his Hollywood Hills home.
All of the crimes occurred at the defendant’s home.
Case BA487932 was investigated by Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery-Homicide Division.”
