A Solano County man has been arrested following an alleged road rage incident which escalated to a confrontation with local police.
According to a press release by the Vacaville Police Department, a motorist called police to report that another motorist had threatened them with a firearm on the afternoon of Sunday, May 14. The victim told police that the suspect allegedly made threats with a firearm due to a perceived delay at a traffic light. The victim provided details regarding the suspect’s vehicle, the driver, and a partial license plate number.
After reviewing city camera footage, law enforcement officers successfully identified the suspect’s black Jetta and obtained the associated license plate information. An officer later spotted the Jetta near the intersection of Alamo Drive and Nut Tree Road and requested additional units for assistance.
The driver, identified as 38-year-old Audwin Chambers from Vacaville, pulled into a nearby parking lot and exited the vehicle. Despite repeated commands from the officer to comply, Chambers refused and reached back into his car. Concerned for their safety, the officer maintained a secure position and continued issuing commands, which Chambers reportedly did not follow.
After a brief period, Chambers reportedly emerged from the car holding a plastic grocery bag and proceeded to walk away from the officer towards other nearby vehicles. Eventually, Chambers complied with the officer’s commands and was safely detained.
A discarded plastic grocery bag was found beneath a nearby parked car, containing a fanny pack. Inside the fanny pack, officers discovered Chambers’ photo ID and a fully loaded Glock 26 handgun, which had been reported stolen in southern California.
Chambers has been booked into the Solano County jail and is facing multiple felony firearm charges, including possession of a loaded and concealed handgun as a convicted felon. It was unclear at press time whether Chambers had retained an attorney.
