Kings County Man Arrested after Allegedly Trying to Use Stolen Credit Card at Walmart

A Kings County man has reportedly been arrested after allegedly burglarizing credit cards and other items from multiple vehicles. He was arrested after allegedly trying to use one of the credit cards the following morning.

According to a press release by the Kings County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to the 4000 Block of 11th Avenue to investigate a theft in the early morning hours of Monday, May 29. The victim reported that three family vehicles had been accessed during the night, resulting in the theft of various items, including tools, a purse, and credit cards.

After being alerted to the stolen cards, the victim notified the credit card companies. One credit card company informed the victim that a credit card had been used that morning at the Walmart in Hanford. The investigating deputy responded to Walmart and met with their Asset Protection team, who provided video surveillance footage. The footage revealed a subject — later identified as 35-year-old Jermel Logan — attempting to use the stolen credit card to purchase approximately $600 worth of merchandise.

The surveillance video provided a clear view of Logan, his tattoos, and included him leaving in a blue Toyota Prius, the Sheriff’s Office said.

The deputy shared this information with other members of the Sheriff’s Office. The following morning, an off-duty deputy spotted a Prius matching the description traveling south on Highway 41 near Hanford Armona Road. An on-duty deputy responded and conducted a traffic enforcement stop on the Prius, which was being driven by Logan.

A records check reportedly revealed that Logan was on CDC parole for multiple convictions of burglary, drug possession, resisting arrest, and possession of narcotics in jail or prison, thus making him subject to search terms. During a search of the Prius, deputies reportedly located several of the stolen items, which were later returned to the owner.

Logan initially told authorities he found the stolen articles on the side of the road and had not used a credit card at Walmart. Once confronted with video evidence, he reportedly admitted it was him.

Logan was arrested and booked into the Kings County jail on charges of burglary, possession of stolen property, identity theft, and violation of parole. His bail was set at $75,000.
