Fresno Police Launch Investigation into Fatal Shooting at Lorena and Geneva Avenues
Law enforcement officials have launched an investigation into a shooting last week in Fresno in which one person was killed and another was left in critical condition.
According to a press release by the Fresno Police Department, officers from the Southwest Policing District responded to the intersection of Lorena Avenue and Geneva Avenue after a ShotSpotter activation detected twelve gunshots just before 7:30 AM on Thursday, June 9. At the scene, two individuals were found with gunshot wounds.
One victim, identified as Ibrahim Muhammad, 43, was transported to Community Regional Medical Center for medical treatment but succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival. According to detectives investigating the incident, both victims were present on Lorena Avenue at the time of the shooting. Muhammad is reportedly believed to have been the intended target, while the female victim had simply been a bystander and is not believed to have had any connection to Muhammad or the incident, police said.
