On the morning of June 8th, 2023, a vigilant Ventura County Sheriff’s Department patrol deputy attached to the Fillmore Police Station apprehended 29-year-old Fillmore resident Edgar Ballesteros when he was spotted engaging in suspicious activity near the entrance of the City of Fillmore / Sanitation plant. The particular area in question houses a securely locked deposit box utilized as a drop-off point for residents remitting fees associated with the use of the RV and trailer dump station.
According to VCSD spokesman Sgt. Will Hollowell, Ballesteros is a well-known probationer residing in Fillmore and is currently “under probationary terms due to prior offenses pertaining to theft and drug-related violations.” Upon investigation at the scene, it was discovered that Ballesteros employed a makeshift fishing line to pilfer envelopes stored within the aforementioned locked deposit box. Remarkably, Ballesteros succeeded in his unlawful endeavors and was apprehended while in possession of a check made payable to the City of Fillmore. The immediately ensuing search of Ballesteros led to the discovery of drug paraphernalia, thereby violating the terms of his probation.
Ballesteros was taken into custody and transported to Ventura County Jail, where he faces charges of theft of mail, possession of personal identifying information, possession of stolen property, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Ballesteros remains in custody with his bail set at $60,000.00.
