The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of a man on suspicion of kidnapping a woman at gunpoint.
According to a press release by the Sheriff’s Office, authorities responded to multiple calls reporting a kidnapping incident in Turlock on the evening of June 18. The incident occurred at a residence located on the 100 block of S Morgan Road. According to witnesses and 911 callers, a man armed with a gun entered the home and forcibly took the victim, a 31-year-old woman, against her will.
One of the callers was reportedly the victim’s 12-year-old son. Multiple deputies and the air responded to the scene, and witnesses confirmed that the suspect had driven away with the victim in a car, heading south on S Morgan Road.
Using the description of the vehicle and its direction of travel, the air unit — AIR101 — located the car on Central Avenue. Ground units were dispatched to catch up to the speeding vehicle, which continued southbound onto Kelley Road.
The pursuit came to a halt at the Hills Ferry Bridge, where construction barricades obstructed the suspect’s path. The driver then got out of the vehicle and went the victim’s side. When the victim attempted to escape, he allegedly prevented her from doing so, positioning himself between her and the newly arrived deputies.
The deputies issued commands and commenced negotiations with the suspect, whom they believed to be armed. The suspect eventually released the woman, allowing the law enforcement officials to apprehend him without further incident. The suspect, identified as 22-year-old Angel Primitivo Garcia, was taken into custody and subsequently booked into the Stanislaus County jail.
Authorities allege that Garcia forcibly entered the victim’s home, brandished a weapon, assaulted a child by pistol-whipping, threatened numerous occupants, and forcefully removed the woman from the residence. The child sustained no significant injuries during the attack, while the female victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries, including scratches and bruises.
Garcia remains in custody on suspicion of kidnapping, false imprisonment, assault likely to cause great bodily injury, domestic violence, child endangerment, burglary, criminal threats, and brandishing of a replica firearm. He remains in custody at the Stanislaus County jail, with bail set at $495,000.
