A wanted suspect has reportedly been arrested in Calaveras County following a law enforcement pursuit.
According to a press release by the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office, a wanted suspect evaded law enforcement officers in a brief pursuit through the town of San Andreas before eventually surrendering in the parking lot of the California Highway Patrol San Andreas Office on the afternoon of Sunday, June 25.
Deputies from the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office initiated the pursuit after recognizing the suspect, identified as 38-year-old Michael Wilmshurst of San Andreas, traveling within the town. Having knowledge of an outstanding arrest warrant against Wilmshurst, the deputies attempted to apprehend him. However, Wilmshurst allegedly refused to comply and instead entered a private property on Gold Strike Road, which led to a dead end.
In an attempt to evade capture, Wilmshurst allegedly drove recklessly through the property, colliding with parked vehicles, before returning to the roadway. He then accelerated away, leading deputies on a chase through San Andreas until reaching the parking lot of the California Highway Patrol San Andreas Office.
A short standoff occurred at this location, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Law enforcement officers from the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office and the California Highway Patrol Office engaged in dialogue with Wilmshurst, ultimately persuading him to surrender peacefully. Without further incident, Wilmshurst was taken into custody by the authorities.
Following his apprehension, Wilmshurst was booked into the Calaveras County jail on suspicion of felony evasion, resisting arrest, and the pre-existing felony warrant.
