Anissia Martinez, 27, passed away on Wednesday, July 5, after sustaining a gunshot wound. The primary suspect in the case has been identified as her boyfriend, Rosalino Mendoza-Hernandez.

According to a press release by the Fresno Police Department, the incident occurred on the afternoon of Saturday, July 1.

Southeast Policing District officers responded to the scene following a report of a gunshot victim. Upon their arrival, officers discovered Martinez suffering from a single gunshot wound. Immediate medical assistance was provided, and she was transported to Community Medical Center in critical condition.

Despite life-saving efforts by medical personnel, Martinez’s condition deteriorated, and she was pronounced deceased later that day.

Detectives determined that Mendoza-Hernandez, 22, and Martinez had been in a relationship since the beginning of 2023. During a search of the scene, law enforcement officials recovered a handgun believed to be the weapon used in the shooting.

Mendoza-Hernandez, reportedly a known gang member, was apprehended at the scene while attempting to flee and was initially taken into custody on suspicion of attempted murder and multiple weapons violations. However, following Martinez’s death, he is now set to face a charge of murder.
