A brave 14-year-old girl went to the Moorpark Patrol Station of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department in June of 2023 to report a sexual assault, indicating that for the prior two years she had been victimized and abused by 37-year-old Port Hueneme resident Mathew Gomez.
Detectives attached to the Thousand Oaks Major Crimes Sexual Assault Unit, the Directed Enforcement Unit, and the Investigations Bureau immediately went to work and promptly discovered evidence supporting the juvenile female’s allegations. According to VCSD spokesman Det. Greg Webb, detectives learned of Gomez’s whereabouts in the City of Port Hueneme and “made contact” with him on the afternoon of July 12th .
At the time of their contact with Gomez, he was in possession of child pornography, “a concealed firearm, a high-capacity magazine, and an amount of controlled substances indicative of narcotics sales.”
The Directed Enforcement Unit then obtained and served a search warrant on Gomez’s residence, leading to the discovering of “additional items of contraband.” He was then taken into custody and transported to Ventura County Jail, where he was booked on “13 counts related to sexual assault, firearms, drug sales, and possession charges.”
Gomez remains in custody with his bail set at $500,000.
