Authorities in Fresno have announced the arrest of a primary suspect in connection with a recent double shooting that left one person dead and another injured.

Ibrahim Muhammad

According to a press release by the Fresno Police Department, officers from the Southwest Policing District responded to a ShotSpotter activation at the intersection of Lorena Avenue and Geneva Avenue in Fresno on the morning of Thursday, June 8. The activation indicated that twelve rounds had been fired at the scene. Upon arrival, officers discovered two shooting victims.

One of the victims, identified as 43-year-old Ibrahim Muhammad, had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his body. He was pronounced deceased by medical personnel. The second victim, a 57-year-old woman, had been shot in her upper body but survived the attack. She is currently undergoing recovery from her injuries.

Homicide detectives assumed the investigation and identified the primary suspect as 27-year-old Malik Nichols. Nichols is reportedly an active gang member and was already on parole for assault with a deadly weapon at the time of the incident. He was also already in custody at the Fresno County jail in connection with an unrelated shooting, police said.

As of July 31, Nichols faced additional charges in connection with the shooting death of Ibrahim Muhammad and the wounding of the second victim. Detectives are seeking further information from the public, urging anyone with relevant details to contact the Fresno Police Department.

The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities continue to piece together the circumstances surrounding the incident.
