Kern County Man Arrested for Allegedly Threatening to Bomb Police Station
Authorities in Kern County have announced the arrest of a man accused of making terrorist threats against local police.
According to a press release by the Tehachapi Police Department, the department was alerted to a potential threat involving 55-year-old resident Robert Kovach on August 3. Kovach had allegedly made threats to bomb the Tehachapi Police station, prompting an immediate response from law enforcement.
After gathering information, investigators obtained both an arrest warrant and a search warrant for Kovach’s residence. Kovach was taken into custody during a routine traffic stop. A subsequent search of his vehicle revealed the presence of approximately one pound of an unknown substance resembling an explosive material commonly known as “poor man’s C4.”
Law enforcement officials, along with members of the Kern County Sheriff’s Bomb Squad, conducted a thorough search of Kovach’s residence, located on the 21000 block of Blue Oaks Avenue in Golden Hills. The search reportedly turned up various items such as homemade ignition fuses and firearms, as well as about seven grams of methamphetamine and other drug paraphernalia.
Kovach has been booked into Kern County Jail on a “no bail” arrest warrant, specifically for making terrorist threats.
Kovach was ultimately booked at the Kern County jail on a no-bail warrant for alleged terrorist threats. Police say that he is expected to face additional charges, including being under the influence while armed, possession of narcotics while armed, possession of a destructive device, and manufacturing a destructive device.
Authorities have urged anyone with additional information about the case to contact the Tehachapi Police Department directly at 661-822-2222.
The investigation is ongoing, as law enforcement officials work to uncover more details related to the case. It was unclear at press time whether Kovach had retained an attorney.
All suspects arrested on suspicion of crimes are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
