A man with a lengthy criminal history was placed under arrest shortly after allegedly robbing another bank. The suspect Alden L. Moore, 57, is being held in custody in lieu of $300,000 bond, pending a pretrial hearing on August 14.
Moore is a homeless person, who has spent years in state prison for prior bank robbery convictions. He has been involved in at least nine bank robberies or attempted bank robberies in Alameda County. In addition, he was convicted of first-degree robbery of an inhabited vessel/floating home.
Moore has been getting in trouble with the law since 1985 when he was convicted for sodomy by force. He also has prior arrests and convictions for battery, vehicle theft, and other robberies on his record.
On August 7, Moore went inside Mechanics Bank on Shattuck Avenue. A teller was handed a note by the suspect. It said he had a gun and demanded money. The teller complied handing the man an undisclosed amount of money, who fled on foot.
Moore, who matches the description of the robber, was found waiting at the nearby downtown Berkeley BART station. He was arrested at 1:23 p.m., and the stolen money was returned to Mechanics Bank.
Moore was booked into Alameda County Santa Rita Jail for second-degree bank robbery, and charges related to criminal recidivism. His latest criminal case is under review.
