LIVERMORE — A police dog sniffed a locked box inside a vehicle that contained illicit drugs, adding to mounting evidence against a suspected drug dealer. The driver was pulled over for what initially seemed like a routine traffic stop.
On August 1 shortly after 7 p.m., Livermore police conducted a traffic stop near Robertson Park.
A black Dodge Magnum was stopped on Arroyo Road for vehicle code violations.
Upon further investigation, officers searched this vehicle and found drugs. Specifically, they found a prescription bottle of morphine containing 42 pills. But these were not prescribed to the sole occupant of the vehicle.
Next police found a suspicious locked box. A K-9 investigator was called into service. The dog alerted officers to the presence of narcotics. Officers checked to see what was inside this box. Inside it they found 190 oxycodone pills, two scoopers, one scale, and small plastic bags.
Officers placed under arrest the driver, Matthew J. Sedra, a 39-year-old resident of Modesto. He is suspected of possessing these illicit drugs with intent to sell them, because of the presence of drug sales paraphernalia.
Sedra was booked at county jail on three felony charges. One is possession of a controlled substance PC 11377(a). The second is possession of a controlled substance for sale PC 11351. The third is transportation and sales of a narcotic controlled substance PC 11352(a).
Charges against Sedra are under review, and he is presently no longer in custody, according to jail records.
