Redwood City Man Faces Felony Assault Charge for Alleged Attack at Local Park
Authorities in San Mateo County have announced the arrest of an individual for an alleged assault with a deadly weapon.
According to a press release by the Redwood City Police Department, 48-year-old Jose Guadalupe Naranjo has been identified as the primary suspect in an alleged attack that took place at Spinas Park in Redwood City on the night of August 8.
Police say that Naranjo allegedly “threw the victim onto the hood of a car, held him down by his throat, and punched him repeatedly in the face.” The victim was later hospitalized at Kaiser Hospital for injuries to his head.
Investigators soon identified Naranjo as the primary suspect.
On August 21, an off-duty police officer spotted Naranjo at a coffee shop. Additional officers responded and took Naranjo into custody.
Naranjo was later booked at the San Mateo County jail on suspicion of felony assault with a deadly weapon.
It was unclear at press time whether Naranjo had retained an attorney.
All persons arrested on suspicion of a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
