Two Arrested After Allegedly Being Caught Stealing Mail in Clovis
Two people with multiple outstanding arrest warrants were recently arrested in Clovis after a patrol officer allegedly caught them stealing mail.
According to a press release by the Clovis Police Department, a patrol officer apprehended two individuals who had allegedly been stealing mail in the vicinity of Ashlan and Locan early on the morning of Wednesday, August 16. The individuals were identified as 43-year-old Francine Ruby and 38-year-old Diamond Perez, both of Fresno.
The officer had become suspicious when he allegedly witnessed the suspects handling mail, and observed a significant amount of mail in the back of their vehicle, described as Hyundai Sonata. The Sonata was reportedly affixed with a counterfeit plate.
Ruby and Perez were both detained without incident. Both turned out to have multiple arrest warrants, police said.
Officers searched their vehicle and recovered numerous pieces of mail bearing the names and addresses of various individuals in the area. As well, the suspects’ vehicle closely matched a description provided in connection with earlier incidents of mail theft reported in Clovis over the past few weeks.
Ruby and Perez were taken into custody and booked at the Fresno County jail on suspicion of mail theft, possession of stolen property, and possession of burglary tools. Their outstanding warrants reportedly included charges of grand theft, shoplifting, and driving under the influence of alcohol.
Their cases have since been referred to the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office.
