Two individuals have been arrested in connection with a shooting in the early morning hours of Sunday, August 13.
According to a press release by the Santa Ana Police Department, officers responded to 2734 North Bristol Street, where they found an adult male suffering from apparent gunshot wounds to his upper torso. Despite the life-saving efforts of the Orange County Fire Authority, the victim, later identified as Jorge Velazquez (29) of Santa Ana, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The ensuing investigation included heavy canvassing of the area and interviews with multiple individuals, which helped identify several persons present at the scene during the shooting. One of the suspects, identified Diana Tenorio (31), was arrested at her home in Garden Grove on August 15. The Santa Ana Gang Unit, in collaboration with other units, also executed a search warrant at the residence, ultimately leading to the discovery of a firearm.
Manuel Chairez (30) of Garden Grove was identified as a second suspect, and is reportedly believed to be the shooter. Chairez was taken into custody in Moreno Valley on the morning of August 16 by members of the Santa Ana Gang, Vice, and Career Criminal units. Chairez reportedly later made incriminating statements while being questioned by homicide detectives.
Homicide detectives later booked Chairez on suspicion of murder. On August 18, the Orange County District Attorney’s Office formally charged Chairez with murder.
It was unclear at press time whether Chairez had retained an attorney.
