Saturday evening, just before 9 p.m., Officers stopped an SUV pulling a trailer that matched the description of a hit-and-run vehicle 15 minutes earlier. The driver gave a false name and then sped off, leading officers on a pursuit just under a mile long. As he turned through the intersection of Wales Street and Natoma Street, he turned wide and struck an uninvolved driver. He then drove head-on into a police car stopped in the oncoming lanes. He accelerated away, striking another police car. He left the road, taking out a light pole before his vehicle was disabled.
The driver ran on foot, leading officers on a short foot chase before physically fighting with them as they took him into custody. During the fight, he attempted to take an officer’s Taser. Both the man and one of the officers suffered minor injuries.
Officers learned that the SUV was stolen, but was not reported yet. They also learned the driver was on probation and had a felony arrest warrant outstanding.
Jimmy Buckley, 50, transient, was booked into the Sacramento County Jail for possession of a stolen vehicle, obstructing a police officer, vehicle theft, felony hit and run (causing injury), evading police in a vehicle, evading police in a vehicle with wanton disregard for safety, evading police in a vehicle while driving the wrong way on a roadway, giving a false name, and the felony arrest warrant.”
