SAN LORENZO — Two men are in custody ineligible for release on bond, following an attempted bank robbery. The fleeing getaway driver struck a teenager near the intersection of Via Cordoba and Via Grande.
These incidents occurred on August 28. Alameda County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of attempted robbery at the Citibank branch office at 429 Paseo Grande.
Two men entered the bank. One handed a teller a note demanding $20,000. The second man served as lookout. However, they fled in a blue Ford Taurus without getting any money, while pursued by sheriff’s deputies.
The chase was aborted for public safety. The getaway car driver kept going after hitting the juvenile pedestrian. Deputies stopped to aid the victim, who was later transported to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators traced both 21-year-old suspects to a residence in the city of Alameda. The suspects are Kevin A. Perry, of Alameda, and Dewey Nguyen, of Hayward. They fled on foot when deputies attempted to contact them the following morning on August 29.
A perimeter was established and both men were subsequently taken into custody. Perry next attempted unsuccessfully to escape from the sheriff’s office substation on Foothill Boulevard in San Leandro.
Perry faces a lengthy list of charges. His charges include attempted second-degree robbery and leaving the scene of an accident. Notwithstanding, Perry is a parolee with a prior conviction for second-degree robbery and grand theft.
Likewise, Nyugen faces multiple charges. His charges include attempted second-degree robbery and receiving a stolen vehicle. The stolen vehicle was at the residence in Alameda, along with the getaway car. Nyugen also has a prior conviction for attempted second-degree robbery.
