Man Charged with Murder in Fatal Shooting at Brea Apartment Complex
The Brea Police Department has announced the arrest of a primary suspect in connection with a fatal shooting at an apartment complex on Tamarack Avenue.
According to a press release, Brea PD’s dispatch center received multiple reports of gunfire at an apartment complex located at N. Tamarack Avenue on the evening of Wednesday, August 30. Officers arrived at the scene within two minutes and discovered a male victim who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. The victim, identified as Logan Kahmar, 21, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators soon identified the primary suspect in the shooting as 28-year-old Sidney Clarke. The following day, on August 31st, Clarke was located and detained by deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Evidence obtained during Clarke’s detention further linked him to Kahmar’s murder, police said.
Sidney Clarke was booked at the Brea Police Department jail, then later transferred to the Orange County jail with an initial bail set at $1 million.
On Tuesday, September 5, the Orange County District Attorney’s Office filed a felony complaint of murder with an enhancement for the alleged personal discharge of a firearm causing great bodily injury or death. As such, Clarke is no longer eligible for bail. It was unclear at press time whether Clarke had retained an attorney.
All persons arrested on suspicion of a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
