Rialto PD Makes Firearm Arrest in Chik-Fil-A Incident – With Help From FUSUS

“The Rialto Communications Center received a call for service from a witness that observed a subject brandish a firearm at a victim while the parties were in the drive thru of Chick-Fil-A. Officers responded to the location where they spoke to a witness who was able to provide a license plate of the suspect vehicle. Upon further investigation, officers were able to locate the suspect who was in possession of a 9mm ghost gun. The juvenile suspect was arrested for PC 25400(a)(3)-Possession of a loaded/unregistered firearm as well as PC 417(a)(2)-Brandishing a firearm.
Fortunately, Chick Fil A is registered through FUSUS, a program which allows the Rialto Police Department to have quick real time access to the businesses video surveillance cameras. After reviewing footage of the incident, officers were able to locate the victim’s license plate and make contact with the victim. The contents of the video surveillance footage provided officers with the criminal elements needed to book the suspect for an additional felony charge of PC 245(a)(2) – Assault with a Firearm.
This is a great example of how businesses that enroll in the FUSUS program can assist the Rialto Police Department solve crimes in a more efficient manner should a crime occur on their property.
