Hollister High School Locked Down After Student Allegedly Caught with Loaded Gun
In an incident at Hollister High School, a loaded firearm was discovered in the possession of a student during a staff investigation into an alleged drug deal, prompting a lockdown of the school.
According to a press release by the Hollister Police Department, the incident unfolded around 10:30 AM when a school staff member investigating a disturbance reported witnessing what appeared to be a hand-to-hand drug transaction and subsequently detained two students.
The Hollister Police School Resource Officer, already on campus, was called to assist and reportedly discovered that one of the detained students was carrying a loaded gun. Both students were kept under watch and additional officers were requested.
A total of 21 officers responded to the school, including Hollister Police units, administrative and investigative staff. Officials from the San Benito County District Attorney’s Office and the San Benito County Sheriff’s Office also responded.
Concerns arose regarding the potential presence of more undisclosed firearms on campus, leading to the use of the school’s surveillance systems to identify additional persons of interest and their locations.
The school lockdown was lifted shortly thereafter and Hollister High School officials decided to conclude the school day. There does not appear to be any further threat to students or staff at the school, police said.
