Calaveras County Man Accidentally Beaches Boat, Cited for Allegedly Boating Under the Influence

A boat operator was issued a citation after accidentally beaching his boat while allegedly operating it under the influence with two passengers onboard.

According to a press release by the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded on the night of September 2 to a report of a boating accident at a privately owned beach in Copperopolis, just west of the O’Brynes Ferry Bridge.

At the scene, deputies discovered a beached 23-foot black and white International boat. The boat operator, identified as 21-year-old David Foxx, had been carrying two juvenile passengers out on Lake Tulloch and traveling at approximately 30 miles per hour when he allegedly struck the shoreline and the boat was launched up onto the beach.

One of the juvenile passengers sustained mild injuries and was treated at the scene, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies suspected that Foxx had been operating the boat under the influence of alcohol, and ultimately issued him a citation for the alleged offense.
