Butte County Authorities Investigate Suspected Air Gun Shootings

“Durham, CA – On the afternoon of September 16, 2023, around 3:30 p.m., a motorist was driving a vehicle on Holland Avenue, Durham. The motorist had the window rolled down and his arm was extended out the window. The motorist felt something hit his arm and noticed his arm was bleeding. The motorist sustained a minor injury and the incident was later reported to the Butte County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO).
Around 5:55 a.m. on September 17, 2023, a female victim drove into the parking lot of Dollar General, Durham. When she was entering the parking lot, she heard an object hit her vehicle. As she exited her vehicle, she felt something hit her leg. She sustained a minor injury to her leg. Deputies conducted a search of the surrounding area. They were unable to locate any suspects.
Around 8:24 p.m. on September 17, 2023, a BCSO deputy was driving a marked patrol vehicle on Holland Avenue near the intersection of Brown Street, Durham. The deputy heard an object strike the driver door of his patrol vehicle. The deputy stopped the vehicle and noticed a small dent. Based on the investigation, the deputy believed a BB or pellet struck the driver door of the vehicle. Deputies conducted a search of the orchard surrounding the area. They were unable to locate any suspects.
BCSO deputies and detectives are actively investigating these incidents. Based on the initial investigation, deputies and detectives believe the three incidents are related. Detectives believe the suspect(s) are using an air gun to fire the projectiles.
