San Jose Man Arrested for Allegedly Fatally Poisoning His Mother, Assaulting His Father

The San Jose Police Department has reportedly arrested a man for allegedly poisoning his elderly mother with a fatal dose of fentanyl and violently assaulting his father.
In a press release in late September, the department identified 40-year-old Bradley Dexter of San Jose as the primary suspect in the death of his mother, who was found dead at a residence on the 1100 block of Utopia Place on the afternoon of Tuesday, June 6. After patrol officers processed the scene, the case was turned over to the District Attorney’s Office.
On July 18, the Coroner’s Office ruled the victim’s death a homicide. Detectives developed cause to suspect that the victim had intentionally been poisoned with a lethal dose of fentanyl. Soon thereafter, Dexter, the victim’s adult son, was identified as a potential suspect.
Dexter has also reportedly been identified as a suspect in a violent attack on his father in late September, which resulted in his father being hospitalized with serious injuries. Detectives secured an arrest warrant for Dexter on suspicion of elder abuse and felony assault.
On Monday, September 25, patrol officers located and arrested Dexter in San Jose. He was later booked at the Santa Clara County Main Jail on suspicion of homicide, poisoning, elder abuse, and the arrest warrant.
The motive and exact circumstances surrounding the crimes remain under investigation, police said.

It was unclear at press time whether Dexter had retained an attorney.
