A Solano County man has been sentenced to 15 years to life in prison after pleading guilty to sexually abusing a child.
In a press release, the Solano County Sheriff’s Office reported that 38-year-old Dennis Vongsa of Rio Vista accepted a plea bargain in which he pled to the aggravated sexual assault of a child under the age of 14. The abuse reportedly began in 2017 and continued into late 2021.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the crimes first came to light in October of 2021. The victim, who had been living with her mother and Vongsa in Rio Vista, snuck out of the home during the night and fled to a neighbor’s home. The neighbor notified local police, who in turn contacted the Sheriff’s Office. Together, the agencies launched an investigation.
Detectives spoke with the victim, and the victim reportedly turned over several articles of evidence she had collected herself. Based on this evidence, as well as information gathered during the interview, authorities developed adequate cause to arrest Vongsa.
The case was reportedly investigated by Solano County Sheriff’s Deputy Danny Schilling and prosecuted by Solano County Deputy District Attorney Shelly Moore.
