Fresno Man Dies in Hospital of Gunshot Wound; Suspect Arrested

“On Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at 9:13 am, Southeast officers responded to the 4700 block of East Liberty Avenue for a report of a gunshot victim. Officers found 62-year-old Oscar Martinez seated in a vehicle, and suffering from a gunshot wound. Martinez was transported to Community Regional Medical Center where he was originally listed in critical condition. On Tuesday, September 26, 2023, afternoon, Martinez succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

Detectives were able to identify 46-year-old Joshua Mata as the person responsible for the shooting. Detectives learned that Martinez and Mata were involved in a disturbance at a residence when Mata fatally shot Martinez. Detectives are asking anyone with information regarding the Mata’s whereabouts to please contact the Fresno Police Department.
