“On Wednesday October 4th, 2023 at approximately 10:48 am, Redding Police Officers and emergency personnel were dispatched to Excel Academy regarding an eight-year-old student who appeared to be suffering from an overdose. School administrators were able to administer Narcan prior to medical personnel arrival, causing the overdose symptoms to be reversed. Due to the incident the juvenile was transported via ambulance for medical treatment and observation.
Officers followed up with the student’s parents, who were located at a local downtown motel and found the parents to be in possession of paraphernalia used to ingest and smoke narcotics. The parents were identified as James TIMMONS 36 years of Redding and Constance McCRAY 32 years of Redding. Both parents admitted to smoking fentanyl in the motel room while in the presence of their eight-year-old child, prior to the child going to school.
Further evidence found in the room indicated that child could have come into contact with the drug paraphernalia in the room as well.
James TIMMONS was arrested for child neglect likely to cause great bodily harm or death, possession of fentanyl and possession of drug paraphernalia. Constance McCRAY was arrested for child neglect likely to cause great bodily harm or death and possession of drug paraphernalia. Both parents were transported and booked at the Shasta County Jail.
