PLEASANT HILL — Thirteen suspects were arrested during one day in September to deter rampant theft at the Crossroads Shopping Center. Pleasant Hill Police worked with lost prevention employees in a coordinated law enforcement operation.
The San Francisco Bay area is a hotspot for retail theft, says the Public Policy Institute of California. Statewide retail thefts increased 28.7 percent last year, after low retail theft during the Covid pandemic.
The Bay area experienced the largest increase in retail theft statewide during 2022. Statewide shoplifting increased the most in San Mateo County followed by San Francisco. The counties of Alameda, Santa Clara and Contra Costa also reported large increases.
The Pleasant Hill Police Department said in a prepared statement. “Our department is making it clear for suspects hoping to make our businesses their targets. When you are caught stealing from our stores, you will be arrested and booked into custody.”
