A citizen who witnessed a potentially deadly confrontation between a knife-wielding suspect and two downtown Fillmore pedestrians is responsible for the October 2nd successful arrest and detention of 25-year-old Fillmore resident Issac Torres.
It was just before the 9:00 p.m. hour when, according to Ventura County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Det. Sgt. Will Hollowell, Torres “followed two victims” from a downtown bus stop and then “approached the victims as he brandished a knife and demanded their personal property.” Faces with the prospect of bloody violence, the victims gave up their property “which included one of the victim’s cellular telephone.”
Unaware that he had been observed by a nearby witness, Torres fled the scene while the Ventura County Sheriff Communications Center was recording “a detailed description” of him and the circumstances of the crime. Minutes later, responding deputies spotted Torres, made contact with him, and took him into custody.
Torres was found to be in possession of a pocket knife and the victim’s stolen property, leading to his arrest and a quick ride to the Ventura County Jail. He was booked on charges of robbery and “brandishing a weapon in a threatening manner,” with his bail set at $500,000.
