The Redding Police Department has successfully made an arrest in the high-profile missing person case regarding Danielle Renee Bisnell. This complex and multi-state investigation culminated in the arrest of Erick Eugene Card, a 65-year-old resident of Chico, California, on October 10, 2023, for homicide.

The case began on December 8, 2019, when Bisnell’s boyfriend reported her missing to the Redding Police Department. In the four years since her disappearance, the dedicated Detectives of the Redding Police Department have worked tirelessly to unravel the mystery.

Detectives learned that on the same day she was reported missing, Bisnell encountered Erick Eugene Card at 7-Eleven on Eureka Way in Redding, California. At the time of their meeting, it is believed Bisnell was under the influence of drugs and in an unstable state of mind. Card, taking advantage of her vulnerability, convinced Bisnell to travel to Oregon with him. While initially agreeing to return her to Redding, Card later changed his mind, and became reluctant to take her home. Despite Bisnell’s pleas to return home in time for her son’s 7th birthday, she never arrived home and has not been seen or heard from since.

This investigation spanned multiple states and involved the cooperation of numerous law enforcement agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Lebanon, Oregon Police Department, and Siskiyou County District Attorney’s Office. Substantial evidence discovered during the investigation links Card to Bisnell’s murder. Although Bisnell’s remains have not yet been located, it is believed Card murdered her in Siskiyou County on December 10, 2019.

The Redding Police Department eventually obtained an arrest warrant from Siskiyou County Superior Court, charging Card with one count of homicide. In a coordinated effort with the Chico Police Department, Card was taken into custody at his Chico residence on October 10, 2023. He was subsequently booked into the Siskiyou County Jail, and arraigned on October 12, 2023. Card remains in custody, pending further court proceedings.

Card has a history of befriending women who appear distressed or under the influence of drugs and alcohol. His most recent similar behavior was during the early morning hours of October 10, 2023, just hours before his arrest. This seems to be Card’s method of finding women to take advantage of, and usually occurs near convenience stores or gas stations. The Redding Police Department encourages anyone who has had unusual or uncomfortable encounters with Card or know someone who has, no matter how trivial they believe the experience to be, to come forward and contact the Redding Police Detective Division at 530-225-4214.

The Redding Police Department extends its gratitude to all the allied agencies that assisted in this investigation, including but not limited to, the Chico Police Department, Lebanon Oregon Police Department, Linn County Oregon Sheriff’s Office, Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department, Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, Federal Bureau of Investigation, California Department of Fish and Wildlife, Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, California Department of Justice, California Highway Patrol, Oregon State Police, Siskiyou County District Attorney’s Office and the Shasta County District Attorney’s Office.

The Redding Police Department will continue to work diligently in its pursuit of justice for Danielle Renee Bisnell and we are committed to bringing closure to her family and loved ones.
