Sunnyvale: Suspect in Fatal Shooting Reportedly Takes Own Life Shortly Afterward
SUNNYVALE — An individual who was identified as the primary suspect in a recent double shooting that killed one and injured another was reportedly found dead of an apparent suicide a short time later.
According to a press release by the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety, officers responded to a report of gunshots on the 1700 block of Karameos Drive late on the afternoon of Monday, October 16. Upon arrival, officers located two adult female victims in a vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds. Officers immediately provided life-saving treatment. One victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. The second victim was transported by ambulance to a local area hospital.
Officers located the suspect vehicle a short time later and attempted to conduct a vehicle enforcement stop. The suspect immediately fled from officers. Officers pursued the suspect into Cupertino but discontinued the pursuit after losing sight of the vehicle.
Shortly before 6:30 AM, patrol deputies with the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office reportedly located the suspect vehicle in a heavily wooded area near the 17000 block of Stevens Canyon Road. The suspect was in the vehicle, deceased with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Preliminary investigation indicates that the suspect and victims were known to each other.
There are no outstanding suspects and there is no ongoing threat to the community, authorities said.
