Corona Police Department Investigates Robbery Linked to Facebook Marketplace Transaction
On October 5th, 2023, the Corona Police Department responded to a reported robbery at the 200 block of W. Blaine Street. According to authorities, the incident involved a victim who had arranged to meet a potential buyer from Facebook Marketplace for the purpose of selling jewelry. However, during the meeting, the buyer allegedly produced a black handgun, made threats toward the victim, and fled the scene with the jewelry.
The Corona Police Department subsequently identified the suspect as 18-year-old Kabren Simpson, a resident of Corona. Following their investigation, officers arrested Simpson yesterday and executed a search warrant at his apartment, where they discovered a black Glock-type airsoft gun, as depicted in a photograph released by the department.
Regrettably, the stolen jewelry was not recovered during the search of Simpson’s apartment. After his arrest, Kabren Simpson posted $30,000 bail and was subsequently released from custody. His case is now pending review by the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office.
As a precautionary reminder, law enforcement agencies advise individuals who engage in transactions with strangers through online marketplaces to consider several safety precautions. These include arranging to meet in well-lit and public locations, bringing a friend along when possible, and, most importantly, trusting one’s instincts. If at any point during a transaction something appears suspicious or unsafe, it is recommended not to proceed with the sale. Your safety should always be a top priority when engaging in such transactions.
