Mariposa County Deputies Reportedly Catch Two Burglary Suspects in the Act

Two people were recently arrested on various charges after deputies reportedly caught them in the act of burglarizing a home.

According to a press release by the Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a report of possible vandalism and trespassing at a residential address near Ponderosa Basin on October 15. The report was made by a community member who observed suspicious activity at the location.

Upon arrival, deputies discovered two individuals, identified as Daniel Brown (37) and Dusty Jewell (32), both of Merced, allegedly in the act of burglarizing the residence.

Inside the vehicle belonging to the suspects, law enforcement reportedly discovered 14.7 grams of fentanyl, nine grams of methamphetamine, multiple syringes containing controlled substances, psilocybin mushrooms, assorted drug paraphernalia, and burglary tools.

Brown and Jewell were arrested and transported to the Mariposa County Adult Detention Facility, where they were booked on multiple charges.

The Sheriff’s Office cited a 2022 press release issued by the Drug Enforcement Administration, in which it is stated that as little as two milligrams of fentanyl can be lethal.
