Suspect Arrested in Connection with Murder of Del Norte County Sheriff’s Deputy

A man wanted for the alleged murder of a deputy in Del Norte County was located and taken into custody in Oregon earlier this month.

According to a press release by the Del Norte County Sheriff’s Office, 54-year-old Daniel James Walter was wanted on a Ramey warrant in connection with the death of Sheriff’s deputy Deanna Esmaeel. Esmaeel was found dead in her home on North Bank Road on the morning of Thursday, October 12.

Walter, who was reportedly Esmaeel’s significant other, was identified as the primary suspect in her death.

On the afternoon of Friday, October 13, Walter was located and arrested in Curry County, Oregon.
