Merced Police Investigate Halloween Party Shooting That Left One Dead, Another Injured
Merced police have opened an investigation into a recent shooting at a Halloween party that killed one person and wounded another.
According to a press release, Merced police officers responded to the area of Merced Avenue and Shirley Street to investigate reports of a shooting late on the evening of Friday, October 27. Responding officers learned that the shooting had occurred at a Halloween party on the 1600 block of Shirley Street.
Police say that an altercation had taken place between “at least two people” at the party and that, at some point, a gun was fired multiple times. Two juveniles, ages 16 and 17, were both struck by gunfire. The 16-year-old sustained injuries that were not life-threatening and is reportedly expected to recover. The 17-year-old was ultimately pronounced deceased at the scene.
While detectives have canvassed the area for witnesses and surveillance footage, any persons of interest have yet to be identified. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
