In the early morning hours of November 1st , Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to the report of a burglary in progress. Upon arrival at the scene, the cops apprehended two individuals at an apartment just outside the UCSB campus.
An extensive search of the vicinity led to the identification and apprehension of an 24- year-old Steven Rousseu a resident of Oak View, Ca. Rousseu was found in possession of property reported as stolen in the theft. Rousseu promptly taken into custody and transported to Santa Barbara County Jail, where he was booked on charges of felony burglary, possession of stolen property, and prowling. According to Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department Public Information Officer Raquel Zick, Rousseu “is being held without bail for a violation of parole.”.
Subsequently, on the same morning, SBSD deputies responded to a yet another separate burglary incident occurring within walking distance of the earlier incident. Through diligent investigative efforts, the deputies successfully traced the property stolen earlier by Rousseu to a location occupied by 34-year-old Anthony James Maxwell, a resident of Ventura. Detectives soon established a connection between Rousseu and Maxwell, indicating their collaboration in these criminal activities.
With that evidence in hand, Maxwell was taken into custody and transported to Santa Barbara County Jail, where he was booked on charges of possession of stolen property, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of burglary tools, with his bail set at $20,000.
