Suspect Arrested in Connection with Fatal Shooting in Fresno

Fresno law enforcement has arrested a primary suspect in connection with the fatal shooting of William Carney.
According to a press release by the Fresno Police Department, officers, along with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation Crisis Response Teams, carried out multiple search warrants in relation to a murder investigation on Wednesday, November 8.
The suspect in the case, identified as 29-year-old Damien Murphy, was apprehended on the 4800 Block of North Cedar Avenue and arrested for the alleged murder of Carney.
The incident leading to Murphy’s arrest occurred on the night of Monday, October 16. Officers responded to three ShotSpotter activations on the 400 block of North Effie Street. Soon after, police learned that there was a victim at the scene.
Upon arrival, officers discovered 39-year-old William Carney in the parking lot of the Sinclair gas station at Belmont Avenue and Effie Street. Carney was transported to an area medical center, where he underwent surgery but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The incident was reportedly triggered by a confrontation between the victim and the suspect’s family.
