Repeat Offender in Custody Suspected of Vehicle Theft and Other Crimes

CONCORD— Clenton J. Fugate is a 43-year-old recidivist suspected of committing more crimes. Fugate splits his time between Concord and San Leandro, but now he is at the West County Detention Facility in Richmond.
Fugate allegedly stole a vehicle while on probation for second-degree commercial burglary. The Concord Police Department said in a prepared statement. “The vehicle was stolen during a commercial burglary in Alameda County.”
This SUV with no license plates was driving recklessly in downtown Concord. It attracted the attention of an officer, who pursued the vehicle until it stopped on Almond Way.
The driver exited from the SUV and fled on foot, but the officer was faster than him. Fugate was arrested on November 12 at 5:21 a.m. A search of the stolen SUV yielded methamphetamine and a firearm magazine containing live rounds of ammunition.
Fugate who is ineligible for release on bond was arrested for –
- Vehicle theft
- Possession of a stolen vehicle
- Felon in possession of ammunition
- Possession of a dangerous drug
- Evading an officer while driving the wrong direction
- Recklessly evading an officer
- Resisting/delaying an officer
- Violation of probation
Fugate is frequently arrested. He is being investigated for additional crimes while using the stolen SUV. He has prior convictions for burglaries, assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a controlled substance, and petty theft.
